Here are some random thoughts as I continue as a part of the Integrity Worship Institute. For more information about this AMAZING opportunity click on the picture below.
If a person has been in church any time they have heard John 4:23, ““But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.” Also we hear verse 24, “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” But while we can all quote parts of the previous verses, the idea of how to worship that way typically escapes us.
These verses show us the origins of true worship: 1) worship must be from the HEART, in the right spirit, or sincere. And 2) worship must be grounded in and according to the word of God.
To worship in spirit our heart must be in the right place. Our worship must be free from insincerity, distractions, wandering thoughts. This worship is the result of deep meditations of the heart. Formality and ceremonialism cannot be substituted for worshiping in spirit.
To worship in truth, means no matter how sincere we are, we must worship according to scripture. We cannot add to what God wants. The heart is not enough we must focus on the truth of scripture in our worship process.
In my ministry, it is so easy for me to worship in spirit. It is easy to sing the popular songs and to get an emotional high from me or my congregation. But what I fail to do is make sure I am leading in truth as well. The songs we sing must be grounded in scripture and not just emotion. It is my job as one who guides in worship to make sure we have not only sincere worship but also TRUE worship.
